PrepTicket.com recently announced their 2007 All Houston Team, with Offensive Lineman Jacques Fernandez on the team, and RB Chris Lenoir earning Honorable Mention.

After beating Clements, Katy proceeded to beat San Antonio Madison (66-21) and then Pflugerville (28-7), thus winning the 5A Division II State Championship.   So the only loss the Rangers had this year was to the eventual State Champions.

The greatest season ever for the Clements Rangers comes to an end with a loss to Katy

Fans cheer valiant effort by Rangers in 42 - 0 loss to powerhouse Katy

Rangers end season with 13-1 record

An end-of-season message from Coach Hulme

Katy scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and two in the second quarter, taking a 35-0 lead into halftime.  The Ranger defense was tough throughout the second half, holding the Tigers to a single touchdown in the 3rd quarter and none in the 4th quarter.  Despite some flashes of brilliance, the Ranger offense was unable to score.  The team fought hard and never gave up.  As the game wound down, the fans stood and clapped and cheered for a team that had won their hearts throughout the season.

Photos (more coming soon!):

What this team has accomplished this season will be remembered by Ranger fans for years to come:

  • Won the district championship

  • Set numerous individual season and career Clements Rangers records

  • Scored more points per game than any other team in Clements history (32.9)

  • Had a perfect 10-0 regular season---for the first time in Clements history

The other finalists for the award this year were the coaches of Stratford, College Park, Yates, Cy Fair, Klein Oak, Pasadena Memorial, and Cy Ridge.

Second Round Victory!

in a second-round match-up with the

Beaumont West Brook Bruins !!!

Clements was up 14-13 at the half, but was down 21-33 with 8:11 to go at the end of the game---and made an amazing comeback!  Our final touchdown came with 21 seconds left, making the score 34-33.  We went for the two-point conversion, and on the second attempt (after a penalty) made the 2 points on a Derek Carr run from 8 yards out.  Chris Lenoir had three touchdowns and Walker Dille had two.  Matt Heitzer had one interception.  We beat what appeared to be a bigger, stronger, faster team!  Way to go, Rangers!!!

The Rangers are now 12-0, and go to the third round of the Texas 5A playoffs on December 1.  Only one other team in Clements football history (the 1992 team) has gone to the third round of the playoffs.  Only three Clements teams have had more than 8 victories in a season: 1987 (10-2), 1992 (10-3), and 2007 (12-0).

Four new records are set!

In the November 24, 2007, game against Beaumont West Brook, Derek Carr and Walker Dille each set two new Clements football records:

Derek Carr

Completions in a season.  12 in the game for a total of 97, moving ahead of Kyle Wilkerson, who had 93 in 2002.

Passing yards in a season.  203 yards in the game for a total of 1417, moving ahead of his own total from last year of 1381.

Walker Dille

Pass receptions in a season.  6 in the game for a total of 32, moving ahead of Bobby Darnell, who had 31 in 1995.

Touchdown receptions in a season.  2 in the game for a total of 8, moving ahead of Bobby Darnell, who had 7 in 1996.

On Saturday we will play Houston Stratford at 2:00pm in Galena Park Stadium.
See the Houston Chronicle article about the win over West Brook. And see this great blog about the game. And here is the Chronicle boxscore.

Excerpt from an October 30 Houston Chronicle article:

The Rangers (9-0, 7-0 District 23-5A) are open this week before facing Austin at 6 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Mercer Stadium and closing what they hope is the school's first 10-0 varsity campaign (the school's first-ever team at the junior varsity level went 10-0 in 1983 prior to the initial varsity season in 1984).

The positive numbers are also adding up in a hurry for Clements' fourth-year coach Jeff Hulme, who is taking his third straight team to the playoffs, and this one as the district champion. Hulme's overall mark has blossomed to 29-12, and he's gone 21-9 in district play, while never posting a losing record at Clements (5-5, 7-4, 8-3 and 9-0 this year).
