Three players on our football team received academic all-state honors this year.  Please congratulate the following young men when you see them.

Coffman also holds the CHS record for single-season extra points, with 55 in 2007.

Coffman furthermore ranks 7th on the all-time career-scoring list, with 102 points, and 8th on the all-time single-season scoring list, with 67 points in 2007.

Congratulations to Jesse Cummins, who moved into 10th place on the CHS career receptions list, with 26 receptions in 2007-2008!

But 18 months ago, Omar had lost 35 pounds and wore a stocking cap after losing his hair from chemotherapy treatments. Amin had been diagnosed with leukemia.

"It was just like a nightmare to me when it was happening."

After undergoing ten months of intense chemotherapy, Omar was physically and mentally spent. But then came the break through. His doctor finally gave him the good news.

"From the moment he got the green light, it was a complete one-eighty," says his brother Zade.

Now Omar is back to full speed again, and recently he proved it to everyone.  He started on defense, but when the starting running back was injured Omar was called upon. He responded by scoring 4 touchdowns:

"I was just trying to help my team win."

His mother Abla Amin could hardly believe what she was seeing.

"it was very emotional. I could everybody cheering for him. Everybody was so happy."

To many football is just a game ....but to Omar Amin, it's more.

"It got me to where I am today," says Omar. "Just to have a goal."

So much more, or as his mother puts it.

"It literally saved his life."

Back on board (10-21-08 Houston Chronicle article about senior tailback/cornerback Omar Amin).  Excerpts:

Cured of leukemia, Clements senior Omar Amin can barely be kept off the field these days.

Amin played the best game of his career Saturday in Clements’ 56-49 loss to Elkins. He carried the ball 14 times for 96 yards and four touchdowns as a tailback and also played as a defensive back.

Amin’s newfound strength is as much mental and emotional as physical. His teammates elected him a team captain at the beginning of the season, and he continues to inspire his coaches.

“Omar is an exceptional young man,” Clements head coach Keith Knowles said. “He works so hard out there, and he’s really talented. What he has been able to do is unbelievable.”
