- A message from the coach: Academic All District
We had a very good year in football this year,
but we had an even better year in the classroom.
We had 27 of 54 players achieve
Academic All District.
We had 10 of 11 student trainers achieve Academic All District.
We had 1 of 1 managers achieve Academic All District.
Our goal is to achieve 100% Academic All District.
We were at 45% last year. Moved up to 50% this year.
We will continue to work towards our goal.
Thank you for all of your support.

Monday night, November 23, 2009: The varsity team, the
coaches, the cheerleaders, the trainers, and the football families gathered for
the annual post-season banquet and awards ceremony. For the seniors and
their families, it was a bittersweet occasion, a time of celebration and good
cheer at the memories of a great season on the field (and memories of as much as
four years of Clements football for some), but also of some tears
and regret that their high school football days have come to an end.
The following awards were announced:
- Academic Achievement Award: Robert Tolle and Kyle Sparwasser
- Best Offensive Back: Jarrod Johnson
- Best Receiver: Scott Garcia
- Best Offensive Lineman: Andrew Suter
- Best Defensive Lineman: Austin Taylor
- Best Linebacker - Ray Oppman
- Best Secondary Player: Dominique
Williams
- Best Special Teams Player: Brett Dunn
- Ranger Pride Award: Jarrod Johnson
- Most Valuable Player: Ray Oppman
-
The Houston Touchdown Club has named
10 Offensive and 10
Defensive finalists for the Greater Houston High School Players of the Year,
and Clements has one in each category: offensive lineman
Andrew Suter
and middle linebacker
Ray Oppman.
Only one other school in the Houston area has two finalists: perennial
powerhouse Galena Park Northshore. Remarkably, FBISD accounts for 7 of the 20
finalists, with two from Clements and one from each of these 5A schools: Dulles, Ellkins, Hightower,
and Kempner; and one from 4A Lamar Consolidated.
The winners will be announced
at the Touchdown Club's annual High School Awards Dinner on Wednesday, December 9.
Congratulations to Andrew and Ray!

Coach Sniffin has provided us with the fully-up-to-date
2009
edition of the CHS football records.
Congratulations to
Austin Decell and Brett Dunn, both of whom
appear in the lists of the top dozen or so CHS offensive football players of all
time in various categories.
Austin Decell is now in 4th
place for the most passing yards in a season, and in 6th place for the most
passing yards in a career. He also makes an appearance in the top-dozen
single-season and career lists for most pass attempts, pass completions,
touchdown passes, and (oops) interceptions.
Brett Dunn
is in 8th place on the list for the most scoring in a career, with 87 points (6
touchdowns, 24 points-after-touchdown, and 9 field goals). He is tied for 1st
place for the most field goals in a season (9) and is tied for 5th place for the most
field goals in a career (also 9). He is also in 7th place for the most extra points in a
season.
And both of these guys have another year to play!
(And by the way: Coach Bobby
Darnell, who played at CHS in the mid-1990s, is still in first or
second place in all six pass receiving categories.)
(The
2009
edition of the CHS football records is always available through the
History and Records button at the top of the home page.)

The CHS Rangers Varsity football team finished the 2009 season with a 7-3
record. In the 26-year history of CHS varsity football, only five
teams have compiled a better
win-loss record.
-
A good football season came to an abrupt end for the Clements Varsity
Rangers Friday night in a heart-breaking 11-14 loss to Kempner.
Trailing by 14 early in the game, the Rangers never gave up. They
fought back, played great defense, scored 11 points, and late in the fourth
quarter drove the ball down to the Kempner 6-yard line with seconds
remaining. Victory seemed near, but despite the valiant effort, the
Rangers did not score, and Kempner came away
with the victory and a spot in the playoffs.
Players and coaches: the fans love you! Thank you for your hard work, your
dedication, and your passion for the game. You are champions in our
eyes!

The Houston Touchdown Club has announced the 25 finalists for this year's
Football Scholar-Athlete award. One of the finalists is Clements Rangers
linebacker Robert Tolle. The winner will be announced at the Touchdown Club
luncheon on November 11.

5-0 start to the season!
2009 October 5:
This is only the fourth time in its 26-year history
that the Clements Rangers varsity football team has won its first five games.
The Rangers accomplished this in 1985 (8-2-1), 1987 (10-2), 2007 (13-1), and now again in 2009. Congratulations
to the players and the coaches for a fine start, and best wishes for the
rest of the 2009 season!
