Clements Rangers Football Coach Jeff
Hulme wins the John Kelley Coach of the Year award!
This honor is given annually to one
coach in the greater Houston area. The award was
presented at the Touchdown Club banquet in Houston on December 5. "I'm truly humbled," Hulme said. "I
really am at a loss for words ... It truly is a staff award, and I
appreciate my coaches who are here tonight."
The other finalists for the award this year were the
coaches of Stratford, College Park, Yates, Cy Fair, Klein Oak, Pasadena
Memorial, and Cy Ridge.
The Clements Rangers are 13-0 this year and 32-12 in the
four seasons since Hulme came to Clements for his first head coaching job.

| Historical note:
Exactly 15 years ago today (November 28, 1992), Clements played its only
other third-round playoff game. Leading Katy 16-7 in the Astrodome,
with only 80 seconds left in the game, Clements lost a heart-breaker when
Katy scored two touchdowns in 11 seconds.

Excerpt from an October 30
Houston Chronicle article: The Rangers (9-0, 7-0 District
23-5A) are open this week before facing Austin at 6 p.m. on Nov. 10 at
Mercer Stadium and closing what they hope is the school's first 10-0
varsity campaign (the school's first-ever team at the junior varsity level
went 10-0 in 1983 prior to the initial varsity season in 1984).
The positive numbers are also adding up in a hurry for Clements'
fourth-year coach Jeff Hulme, who is taking his third straight team to the
playoffs, and this one as the district champion. Hulme's overall mark has
blossomed to 29-12, and he's gone 21-9 in district play, while never
posting a losing record at Clements (5-5, 7-4, 8-3 and 9-0 this year). |

New Receiving
Record
During the
10/27/2007
Bush game,
Walker Dille
caught passes for 104 yards and set a new CHS
single-season receiving record of 516 yards, breaking the old record of
488 yards set in 1996 by Bobby Darnell.
See
Bobby Darnell congratulating Walker Dille after the game.
Darnell, who now coaches for Bush, still holds five all-time CHS receiving
records. |

New Touchdown Pass
Record
During the
10/6/2007 Dulles game,
Derek Carr
set a new CHS career record for touchdown passes, with 22 (including 7 so
far this year)! His record-setting pass went to
Matt Heitzer. This breaks Brennan Fjord's CHS
record of 21 career touchdown passes, set in 2004-05. Derek also
holds the single-season record for touchdown passes, with 15 last year. |
|
In the 9/21/2007 game against Elkins,
Chris Lenoir rushed for
241 yards (and three touchdowns), setting a new CHS career rushing record
of 2338 yards! This breaks O.C. Oliver's CHS record of 2212
rushing yards set in 1984-85. |
