How to upload photographs for the website

 

Here's how to upload photos to the webmaster via ftp.  (These are the instructions for a Windows XP user.  If you have a different operating system, you may have to muddle through it yourself.  The webmaster will be happy to try to help.)

First, send email to the webmaster (DaveTolle@rangerfootballfans.org), asking for the ftp User name and password.  Once you have those two items, you can proceed with the following instructions.

 
Establish a new network place that will allow ftp to the website.  This is a one-time operation:
 
1. Start ---> My Network Places
2. Under Network tasks, click "Add a network place"
3. "Choose another network location"
4. Internet address: ftp://ftp.rangerfootballfans.org
5. Uncheck "Log on anonymously"
6. User name: [the User name you got via email above]
7. Type a name for this network place: "upload to ftp.rangerfootballfans.org" (or whatever you want to call it)
8. Next, Finish.
 
From then on, to upload folders or files, do this:
 
1. Start ---> My Network Places
2. Double click the icon for "upload to ftp.rangerfootballfans.org"  (or whatever you called it).
    That will open an ftp window.
3. With Windows Explorer (right-click Start and then Explore) browse to the files or folder that you wish to upload,
    and drag them to the ftp window.  You should be asked for a User Name and Password.  Use the ones you received via email above.
 
 
Alternatively, to upload folders or files more securely, do this:
 
1. With Windows Explorer (right-click Start and then Explore) browse to the files or folders that you wish to upload.
2. Under "File and Folder Tasks" in the left pane (you may need to click the Folders icon to see that), click on
     "Copy this file".
3. In the pop-up window that appears, select "upload to ftp.rangerfootballfans.org" (or whatever you
    called it) and then click the Copy button in the pop-up window.
4. Supply the User Name and Password that you received via email above.
 
 
Then send email to tell the webmaster that you've uploaded some photos (and what the folder name is).
 
This process gets the photos to the website, and thus to the webmaster, but it doesn't make them
     available to users.  The webmaster will link them in to make them available to users of the website.
