The 2006 football season ended for the Clements Rangers Friday night with a 35-42 playoff loss to the Brazoswood Buccaneers See the Houston Chronicle boxscore. Clements Rangers vs Brazoswood Buccaneers: November 17
The Rangers lost a close, hard-fought game, 35-42.
According to the Houston Chronicle boxscore and eyewitness reports:
Brazoswood scored on their first possession, at 8:08 in the 1st quarter.
Elliot Coffey scored on a 33-yard pass from Derek Carr with 5:23 left in the 1st quarter. Taylor Vernotzy kicked the extra point.
Elliot Coffey scored on a 28-yard run with at 3:54 in the 1st quarter, and Taylor Vernotzy kicked the extra point.
Brazoswood struck again at 1:10 in the 1st quarter, tying the score at 14-14.
At 4:36 in the 2nd quarter, Brandon Roddy scored on a 14-yard pass from Derek Carr, and Taylor Vernotzy kicked the extra point.
Dylan Thorwaldson then scored on a 22-yard pass from Derek Carr at 0:52 in the 2nd quarter, and Taylor Vernotzy kicked the extra point, putting the Rangers up 28-14 at halftime.
With 10:20 remaining in the 3rd quarter, Brazoswood intercepted a Derek Carr pass and ran it 60 yards for a touchdown.
Brazoswood scored at 11:54 in the 4th quarter, tying the game at 28-28.
After a great run down to the 1-yard line by Elliot Coffey, Derek Carr scored on a 1-yard run at 10:45 in the 4th quarter, and Taylor Vernotzy kicked the extra point, putting the Rangers up 35-28.
Brazoswood returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown at 10:31 in the 4th quarter, tying the game at 35-35.
At 6:04 in the 4th quarter, Brazoswood scored on an 11-yard run, going up 42-35, and held the Rangers scoreless after that, running out the clock on their last possession.
Some highlights:
Dylan Thorwaldson caught two passes for 36 yards, and intercepted two Brazoswood passes.
Elliot Coffey was the leading rusher of the game, with 22 carries for 158 yards and one rushing touchdown. He also caught two passes for 71 yards, including a touchdown pass.
Derek Carr completed 9 of 16 passes for 166 yards, including three touchdown passes. He was intercepted once, and he ran for one touchdown.
Taylor Vernotzy was perfect in kicking all 5 extra points.
Matt Heitzer, Kyle Hoke, Zach Nielson, Tommy Sebald, Corey Bagby, Cedric Wilson, Clayton Riddle, and Bronson Fleig were among the many Rangers making outstanding plays during the game.
