Game 1: Seven Lakes Katy

 

Varsity

Friday, August 31: The Clements Rangers came back from a 14-0 deficit at the half and defeated the Seven Lakes Spartans 21-20 in both teams' season opener.

With 10:27 left in the third period, Austin Messina scored on a 50-yard run, and Taylor Vernotzy kicked the PAT, and the score was 14-7 at the end of the third period.  Late in the fourth quarter, Seven Lakes scored again, making it 20-7 with only 6:55 left in the game.  But Rangers quarterback Derek Carr threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Matt Heitzer with 4:42 left, and Vernotzy kicked another PAT.  With 1:18 left Carr threw a 29-yard pass to Walker Dille in the end zone, tying the score at 20-20.  Vernotzy's PAT put the Rangers ahead to stay.

Messina and Ray Oppman each rushed for 93 yards, and Austin Ergenbright rushed 17 yards on two carries. Dille had four receptions for 93 yards,   Heitzer had two receptions, Ergenbright had one, and Kevin Adams had one.  Carr completed 8 of 24 passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions.  Kyle Hoke intercepted one pass, as did Dylan Thorwaldson.

JV Blue and White

Thursday, August 30: The JV Blue team lost 0-19.  The JV White team lost 0-12.

Freshman Blue

Thursday, August 30: The Freshman Blue team won 28-6.

Freshman White

Thursday, August 30: The Freshman White team lost 6-7.
