Mississippi Miracle

Jackson, Mississippi.  Saturday, October 27, 2007.

Former Clements High School football player Riley Curry, brother of current CHS player Reid Curry, scored Trinity University's winning touchdown against Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, on a 15-lateral play!

The play began with the Trinity Tigers on their own 39-yard line, 2 points down, with the score 24-22 in favor of the Millsaps Majors, with 2 seconds left on the clock.  The play ended 60 seconds, one forward pass,  and 15 laterals later with wide receiver Riley Curry running into the endzone for the winning touchdown, making the final score 28-24 in favor of Trinity.

Seven different Tigers touched the ball on the play, and Curry himself touched the ball four times during the play.  The 15th lateral bounced off the turf at the Millsaps 33 yard line and into his hands, and he ran untouched into the endzone.  "There were five or six (Millsaps) guys right there," Curry said. "They thought when the ball hit the ground that it was over, and they stopped. They just kind of watched me run past them."  Curry finished with two touchdowns, and nine receptions for 115 yards.

Riley Curry had an outstanding football career at Clements High School, where he is still ranked high in all six pass reception categories.  (Click on the "Stats Records" tab of this spreadsheet: CHS Records from Blue Book .)
