Game 5: Elkins

The Clements Rangers got their scoring game into high gear, but lost a hard-fought game to Elkins, 49-56. Scoring seven touchdowns (as many as in the previous four games together), the Rangers put forth a valiant effort and never gave up. Trailing 28-49 with less than 6 minutes left, the Rangers out-scored the Knights 21-7, but in the end couldn't quite close the gap.
All seven touchdowns by the Rangers were rushing touchdowns: four by Omar Amin, two by Brett Dunn, and one by Austin Ergenbright. Dunn rushed for 175 yards, Amin for 96, Austin Messina for 43, and Ergenbright for 26.
Chandler Coffey had three receptions for 109 yards. Ergenbright, Jesse Cummins, and Blake Cypert each had one reception. Austin Decell completed 6 of 11 passes, with one interception. Brian Coffman made all seven PATs.

JV White beat Elkins 34-0 !
The Rangers turned in another dominating performance on defense en route to a 34-0 victory over Elkins. This game marks the 2nd shutout of the season for the Rangers, who are giving up only 6 points per game this season. Kalen Hines and Umair Karowadia registered several tackles behind the line of scrimmage, and Jordan Nussbaum came up with a huge open field tackle to keep the Knights out of the endzone as time expired in the 1st half. Brad “The Hammer” Fontana delivered some punishing hits in the secondary. On the offensive side, Charlie Carroll had 3 touchdown runs, Mike Seitz scored on a quarterback sneak from 5 yards out, and Eric Nguyen delivered the Rangers’ first passing touchdown when he hit Amanjyot Munday to put the Rangers up 34-0 midway through the 3rd quarter.

Big runs by Max Melvan and Jacolby Berry and a nice catch by William Dille starts off the scoring with 2:56 in the 1st qtr Clements 6 – 0. The Rangers defense hold Elkins to 3 and out on the next possession and Jacolby Berry scores from 30 yds out after a nice drive. Max Melvan catches the 2 pt conversion from Ethan Caudillo to take a 14 – 0 led in the 2nd qtr. Elkins scored on a long run before half and the 2pt play fails and the halftime score is 14 – 6. Much like last week the defense plays a tough 2nd half but Elkins scores on a long pass to cut the lead to 14 – 12. In the 4th qtr. Jarrod Johnson intercepts a pass and the Rangers are able to put a 38 yd drive together to score. Jarrod Johnson scores from 2yds out and the PAT is good by Dan Debord to go up 21 – 12. Elkins scores a late touchdown on a 35 yd pass and the PAT fails. The Rangers are able to hold on to the game with a 21 – 18 victory over the Knights.
