Thursday, Sept 17: The Clements JV Blue Team beat Willowridge JV 27-6
The JV football team improved to 2-0 in district with a 27-6 win over Willowridge Thursday night. After going three and out on offense to start the game Umair Karowadia came up with a nice sliding interception to give the Rangers offense great field position. The Rangers offense took advantage this time and Daniel Jeffrey took it in from 3 yards out to give the Rangers an early 6-0 lead. After the Eagles answered back on a long touchdown pass, Jacob Khalil made the score 13-6 when he scored from 2 yards out on his 1st touchdown of the year. The defense played great throughout the 1st half as Kurtis Beck came up with a nice interception off of an Umair Karowadia deflection, and Dan Debord made a leaping one handed interception to give the Rangers the ball back with little time left to play in the half. Mike Seitz connected with Corey Lawson on a 33 yard gain off of a playaction pass made possible by great protection from the offensive line and Jacob Khalil. The Rangers quickly called timeout with 3 seconds left to play and ran another playaction pass where Mike Seitz found Grant Weber in the back of the endzone as time expired for a 3 yard touchdown pass for the first career touchdown for the suddenly Witten-esque tight end, making the score at half 20-6. The Rangers tacked on one more score in early in the 4th quarter on a Daniel Jeffrey 15 yard touchdown scamper, giving the young tailback his 4th rushing touchdown of the season. The Rangers spent Friday going over the film looking to correct mistakes in anticipation for the big showdown next Thursday night at Travis High School.
Freshman
Thursday, Sept 17: Clements Freshman beat Willowridge Freshmen 29-6.
The Clements Rangers Freshman teams joined forces on Thursday night and traveled to take on the Willowridge Eagles. On a gloomy evening the Rangers would provide a beam of light. “Just” Jim Nork would get the scoring started as he scooped up an Eagle fumble and traveled 65 yards for a Ranger touchdown. After holding the Eagles on a fourth and long, Trevor Moore would provide a dazzling, reversal of the field, 25 yard touchdown scamper. Moore would tack on the last Ranger score of the half with a 55 yard dart. Halftime score: Rangers 21 – Eagles 0.
The Eagles would come out in the second half with a spark. After forcing a Ranger punt, the Eagle quarterback would squirt loose down the left sideline for a touchdown run. The Ranger defense would tighten on the two point conversion, bringing the score to 21-6. After another Ranger punt, Jim Nork would once again turn the momentum into the favor of the Rangers with a sack of the Eagle quarterback for a safety. After 3 quarters the Rangers led 23-6. The fourth quarter was consumed by a Ranger time consuming touchdown drive. Will Vest and Danny Clark would provide key third down conversions that would lead to a Michael Holcombe touchdown run. The Ranger defense stomped out the last Eagle attempt to score, final score 29-6.
Other Ranger standouts were Michael Neely, Cam Bayne, Jaime Richards, Tyler Scott and Zane Gardner. The Rangers look to continue their district success next week against the Travis Tigers.
