Game 9: Hightower, October 30, 2009

Varsity

Friday, October 30: The Varsity Rangers lost a tough game to Hightower, 10-35.

Rangers suffered only their second loss of the season to the undefeated Hightower Hurricanes. First quarter ends with Hurricanes on top 7 – 0. Start of the 2nd quarter, Rangers punted and the Hurricanes return it for a touchdown. After the kickoff, Rangers start on their own 17 yd line. The Rangers put together a drive of 16 plays to the Hurricanes 13 yd line where Brett Dunn kicked a 30 yd field goal. Austin Decell led the drive throwing a couple passes each to Adam Blankenship and Scott Garcia.  The drive also included runs by Jacolby Berry and Blankenship. First half ends with the Hurricanes up 14 - 3.  Rangers score one more time in the fourth quarter where Austin Decell connected with Dominique Williams on a 70 yard touchdown pass. Final score had the Hurricanes winning 35 – 10.  Hightower lived up to the strong defense they’ve shown all season.

 Rangers 7-2 overall, will face Kempner in a Zone playoff game Friday, November 6 at Hall Stadium at 7:00. With a win Friday, the Rangers would move on to the 5A regional playoffs.
