Game 1: La Porte, August 27, 2010

Varsity

Friday, Aug 27: The Clements Rangers lost their opening game 37-7

Rangers traveled to La Porte to meet the Bulldogs who continue to be strong from last season when they went to the third round of the playoffs losing to Katy. Dominique Williams received the opening kick off at the goal line and returned it 40 yards. Two plays later Austin Decell ran 20 yds for a Ranger first down.  The Bulldog defense then stepped up; the Rangers only score came late in the second quarter as Jarrod Johnson had a 5 yd touchdown run followed a Brett Dunn extra point kick.  Half ended with Bulldogs on top 28-7.

The Rangers had a better 2nd half by only allowing 9 points to the Bulldogs. Ross Stifflemire had a good evening with 4 catches for 42 yds.  The Bulldogs were just flawless all evening on both sides of the ball in addition to causing 3 turnovers.

Our Rangers get ready for Pasadena Memorial next Saturday (9-4) at 7:00 at Hall Stadium.  Make plans to come out and support our boys!!  Go Rangers!!

JV Blue

Thursday, Aug 26:  The JV Blue team  won 12-7!

The Ranger JV Blue Team opened the 2010 season with a hard fought 12-7 victory over the La Porte Bulldogs.  The Rangers featured a stingy defense that forced 3 interceptions, a number of sacks, and held the Bulldog offense in check most of the night.  The defense was spearheaded by Troy Skisak’s interception in the first quarter, Michael Munnell’s ferocious pass rush, and Conner Phillips two picks in the secondary.  Offensively, the Rangers got off to a slow start, but the passing connection of John King to Trevor Moore sparked the offense.  The two hooked up on a catch and run to score the Rangers’ first touchdown and later connected on a screen for a long gain.  The latter drive was capped by Michael Holcombe’s 15-yard scamper into the end zone.  The win was a great start to the season and the kids are looking forward to their match-up with Pasadena Memorial this week.

Thursday, Aug 26: The JV White team claims victory over La Porte 6-0

The JV White team defeated La Porte last Thursday, 6-0.  The game was obviously a defensive battle, and after a slow start the defense forced a turnover deep in Clements territory which seemed to change the game for the Rangers. Going into the 4th quarter it was a 0-0 tie.  The team got the ball on the 20 yard line with a little over 6 minutes left; they drove down the field converting a crucial 4th down.  They got all the way to the goal line and had 4 seconds left on the clock.  Scott Samwell scored on a 2 yard run to score the only touch down and win by the score of 6 to 0.  The offense improved as the game progressed, and scored on the very last play of the game to win, 6-0.
