Game 2: Pasadena Memorial, September 4, 2010
Varsity
Saturday, Sept. 4: The
Clements Rangers were victorious! 48 - 34
Rangers got their first win of the season beating Pasadena
Memorial 48-34! Saturday's game didn't seem to be going in the right
direction after Pasadena scored 2 TD's in less than 3 1/2 minutes into
the first quarter taking a lead of 12-0. Later in the first quarter,
Rangers scored on a 10-yd run by Jarrod Johnson.
In the second
quarter, Pasadena moved the ball into the red zone when Dominique
Williams intercepted a pass and returned it 85 yds for a TD. Dominique
also had terrific block on an extra point after Pasadena's first score.
Rangers take the lead for the 1st time 14-12. Pasadena then comes right
back and scores taking the lead again 20-14 with a little over 4 minutes
left in the first half. Rangers offense not to be out done moves the
ball deep into Pasadena territory where Mike Seitz throws a 10-yd
touchdown pass to Ross Stifflemire with just 3 seconds left in the half.
Rangers go back on top 21-20 at the half.
The third quarter had
2 more lead changes as Pasadena scored twice and Rangers score once on a
55 yd pass from Seitz to Stifflemire. Third quarter ends with Pasadena
once again in the lead 34-28.
Fourth quarter begins and ends
being all Rangers!! With a little over 1 minute gone in the forth
quarter, Adam Blankenship takes off on a 75-yd run for a TD. Game
is tied at 34-34. Pasadena's offense moves the ball down to the
Rangers 24-yd line and on 4th and 4 the defense stands strong and stops
Pasadena with about 5 minutes left in the game. Three plays later the
Rangers have the ball at the 50-yd line, Adam Blankenship again takes
the ball and races all the way to end zone for the go ahead score, 41-34
with 3:26 left in the game. (Adam also had 63-yd run in the 1st quarter,
his total for the game, 8 rushes for 210 yds!!) With a little over
3 minutes to go in the game, Pasadena gets the ball, but the entire
Ranger defense stood even stronger and stopped them in 4 downs and took
over at the Pasadena 19-yd line. A couple of plays later, Demarcus Cobb
runs 15-yds for a TD making the final score 48-34! Pasadena got the
ball one last time but was stopped again by the defense with an
interception by Steven Mason. Way to go Rangers!!

Thursday, Sept 2: The JV Blue
team wins over Pasadena Memorial 24-0!
The JV Blue Team continued their excellent start to the
season with a 24-0 drubbing of Pasadena Memorial. Both teams struggled
on offense early, but in the 2nd quarter the Rangers offense got
things going. A 50-yard connection from John King to Chris Johnson put
the Rangers ahead. With seconds remaining in the half Dylan Ciminera
scored on a run from 3 yards out, but the TD was called back on a penalty.
With 4 seconds on the clock the Rangers took a timeout to set up the last
play of the half. With a struggling kicking game, the Rangers had no
choice but to try to put the ball into the end zone. Coach Longstreet
decided to go back to the King-Johnson connection. The gamble paid off
as King threw the fade to the back of the end zone and Johnson went up and
over the defender to bring in his second touchdown reception of the game.
The Rangers went to the half with a 12-0 lead.
Expecting a fight from the Mavericks, the defense stepped
up to the challenge of shutting down their spread attack. Led by
linebackers Cameron Bayne, John Mills, Troy Skisak, and Anthony Prejean, the Clements defense
stood stout and preserved the Rangers first shutout of the season.
Offensively, the second half featured the running trio of Michael Holcombe,
Dylan Ciminera, and Michael Henderson. While Henderson broke off a number of big runs from
the FB position, the two tailbacks each put in a solid night of work capped
by a touchdown for each player. While the Rangers are excited about
starting the season 2-0, they know that work still needs to be done to
achieve their ultimate goal of a DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP.
