Game 4: Marshall, September 17, 2010
Varsity
Friday, Sept.
17: Rangers Victory! Clements 17 - Marshall 14
Marshall
scored on their opening drive which turned out to be their only offensive
score of the game. Rangers 1st possession was 3 plays and punt.
Marshall’s next drive took them to the Rangers 31
where they had a 4th down and went for it. Ranger’s defense
stepped up and stopped them on 4th down. Rangers again run 3
plays and face 4th & 6 yards to go. A fake punt had Brett Dunn
passing to Scott Garcia where Scott runs it to the Marshall 45 yard line.
Start of the Second quarter had Rangers and Marshall exchanging
possessions. Rangers then get the ball and drive down to the Marshall 21 where Adam Blankenship scores on a
running play to tie the game 7-7.
Marshall
takes the ensuing kick and moves the ball to the Ranges 21 yd line where it
is 4th down. The Rangers defense holds Marshall and the Rangers offense takes over.
Clements gets the ball and again has
to punt to Marshall.
On
Marshall’s 2nd play a pass, Scott
Garcia intercepts and runs to the
Marshall
31 yd line. Ranger’s offense moves the ball and sets up a Brett Dunn 21 yard
field goal and the Rangers take the lead 10-7 at the end of the 1st
half.
Third quarter Rangers get the ball 1st but
after a couple of plays, Marshall
recovers a fumble at the Clements 43. Marshall drives the ball to the
Rangers 19 and for the third time face a 4th down play and only 2
yards to go for a 1st down, Marshall goes for it but Scott Garcia
makes a great defensive play stopping Marshall short of the 1st
down. Rangers had 3 great defensive stops during the game on 4th
down plays deep in their own territory turning
Marshall
away.
Shortly after the start of the 4th quarter with
Rangers still on top 10-7, Rangers faced a 4th down and fumbles
the ball and Marshall
picks up the fumble and returns it for a touchdown and takes the lead 14-10
with 11:19 remaining in the game. Rangers get the ball and move to the
Marshall 25 yd line facing crucial 4th & 5 where Mike Seitz
throws a 6 yd pass to William Dillie picking up the 1st down. Two
plays later Jarrod Johnson scores on a 7 yd run to take the lead 17-14 with
4:46 left in the game. Ranger’s offense had put together a game winning 13
play drive. Marshall got down to the
Rangers 35 yd line when they fumble the ball, and Chandler Roncancio comes
up with it to seal the win for the Rangers!
Jarrod Johnson had 115 yds on 25 carries for the
Rangers.
