Varsity
Saturday, October 2: The Clements Rangers edge out Travis: 20 - 17
A Homecoming win was just the
ticket as the Rangers defeated Travis in our 1st Zone B match.
Rangers scored all 20 points in the 2nd quarter starting with
Jarrod Johnson scoring on a
3 yd touchdown run. With
Clements leading 6-0, Travis drove into Rangers territory but turned over
the ball on a fumble recovered by Jonathan Lau.
Rangers took over at their own 42 and
in just 2 plays, a 28 yd run by Johnson and then a 30 yd touchdown run by
Dominique Williams gave Clements a 12-0 lead as both extra point attempts
were blocked. With 3 minutes left in the half, Austin Decell hits Ross
Stifflemire on a 17 yd TD pass. A 2 point conversion was successful with
Austin Decell threw to William Dille making the score 20-3 at the half.
Travis scored 14 points in
the 3rd quarter on a 14 yd run and a 42 yd pass play cutting the
lead to just 3 points. Rangers defense stepped up in the 4th
quarter holding Travis on a 4th down and 4 at the Clements 8 yd
line. Turns out the 3 points were enough for the Rangers to hold on to the
win as both teams were scoreless in the 4th quarter.
A great start for the Rangers as zone play begins!
Come out next Saturday
(10-9) to the field house for the send off as your Rangers will take on Bush
at Hall Stadium looking for their 2nd zone win.
Go Rangers!!

Thursday, Sept 30: Clements Rangers Freshman White team victorious over Travis Tigers: 14 - 6
The Clements Rangers Freshman White team improved to 2-4 with a victory over the Travis Tigers tonight. The Rangers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter after a long drive that was keyed by several good runs by Trey Roche and capped off by a 2 yard TD run by Jackson Beasley. Travis threatened in the second quarter, but were stopped at the goal line by the Ranger’s defense. The score tightened to 7-6 just before the half, with Austin scoring a touchdown but missing their 2-point conversion attempt. Ian Voorhies had several excellent kicks, including 2 extra points and a kickoff that went into the end zone for a touchback to start the second half.
The Tigers built some momentum in the third quarter, but started going backward on a pair of big sacks by Kellen Hutchison. In the fourth quarter, Clements drove from their own 40 all the way down the field. They scored on a 4th-and-goal with a 4-yard pitch play to Trey Roche. The Rangers maintained good field position on another good sack by Ahmad Mohammed, a 40 yard punt return by David Mercer, and some costly penalties on the Tigers. Final score: Clements 14, Travis 6.
